What is Mitomycin?

Mitomycin is used as an anticancer medicine against many cancers and solid tumors. 

Uses of Mitomycin 

• Stomach cancer 

• Pancreatic cancer 

• Ovarian cancer 

• Breast cancer 

• Uterus cancer 

• Small cell lung cancer 

How does Mitomycin work?

It gets attached to DNA, forms cross-links in the DNA, inhibits replication, and division, causing cancer cell death.

Common Side Effects 

• Nausea 

• Bone marrow suppression 

• Mouth ulcers

• Alopecia

• Skin rashes 

Serious Side Effects

High doses can lead to:

• Anemia

• Low platelet count

• Lung scarring 

• Kidney damage 

• Liver toxicity 

• Shortness of breath 

• Fast irregular heartbeat 

Precautions 

To be cautiously used in:

• Pre-existing liver disorder 

• Kidney disorder 

• Bleeding disorders

• Severe infection 

• Elderly patients

• Mylosuppressant therapy

• Respiratory infection

• Asthma

• Anemic 

Contraindications

• Not to be used if any previous allergy or hypersensitivity to Mitomycin or any excipients.

• Breastfeeding mothers 

• Pregnant women

Important safety and monitoring information 

Monitor-

• Total blood count 

• Renal functions

• Pulmonary functions

• Hepatic functions

• Local tissue necrosis 

Storage 

It should be stored at 2-8 degrees Celsius, protected from light.

Administration Instructions

• To be administered as a slow IV infusion.

• Avoid IV push or rapid bolus.

• To be used immediately after reconstitution.
