What is Aprahydro?
It is an anti-cancer drug, it is used to treat cancers of the blood or bone marrow and solid tumors.
Uses of Aprahydro –
• Resistant Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
• Melanoma
• Recurrent and Metastatic Carcinoma of the Ovary
• Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
How does Aprahydro work?
• Inhibit the ribonucleotide reductase enzyme used for cancer cell growth.
• Inhibits DNA synthesis.
• Causes Apoptosis, cancer cell death
Common side effects of Aprahydro
Nausea, vomiting, thrombopenia, fatigue, neutropenia
Serious side-effects
• Bone marrow suppression
• Infection risk
• Skin rashes and ulcers occur on long-term use
Contraindications
Not to be used in patients with prior hypersensitivity to the drug or its excipients
Precautions
To be cautiously used in –
• Renal insufficient patients
• Breastfeeding mothers
• Pregnant women
Toxicities
Hydroxyurea causes dose-dependent systemic toxicities.
• Hematological toxicities – bone marrow suppression causing thrombocytopenia, leukopenia
• Mucosal Toxicity – oral ulcers and mucositis
• Pulmonary Airway Toxicity – shortness of breath, cough, pulmonary fibrosis
• Dermatological toxicity – hyperpigmentation and skin ulcers

It is a prescription drug to be used under medical supervision only
