What is Cytarzer?
It is an anticancer medicine used in various types of blood cancers and solid tumors.
Uses of Cytarzer
• Advanced stage Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
• Leukemia of the meninges
• Lymphocytic/ No lymphocytic leukemia
• Refractory leukemia
How does it work?
It mimics DNA bases, inhibits DNA replication, and terminates the chain, causing cell death.

• Weakness
• Indigestion
• Anemia
• Neutropenia
Serious Side Effects
• Dose-dependent side effects –fever, pain, muscle pain
• Neurological dysfunction –confusion, blurring of speech
• Pulmonary embolism and fibrosis
• Irritation of the eye, conjunctivitis.
• Bleeding risk
• Liver toxicity
Precautions
To be used cautiously in patients with –
• Liver dysfunction
• Renal dysfunction
• Immune-compromised patients
• Neurological disorders
Contraindications
• Not to be used if any previous allergy or hypersensitivity to Cytarabine or any excipients.
