What is Dasakast?
It is an anti-cancer drug used for targeted therapy for blood cancers (leukemia).
It is the first-line treatment for leukemia patients who do not respond to other drug therapies.
Uses of Dasakast
• Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
• Acute lymphoblastic leukemia
How does Dasakast Work?
It inhibits kinase enzymes as well as abnormal BCR-ABL proteins
Slows down or stops the cancer cell growth
Common Side Effects
• Fluid retention
• Lowering of blood count
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Skin ulcers and rashes
Serious Side-Effects
• Risk of cardiac arrhythmia
• Bone marrow suppression
• Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
Contraindications
Not to be used in patients-
• Hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the drug or its excipients.
• Breastfeeding mothers
• Pregnant women
Precautions
To be cautiously used in patients with –
• Bleeding disorder
• Cardiovascular diseases
• Hepatic, renal impairment
• Recent surgery or wound
• Disorders of the stomach
Toxicities
• Bone Marrow suppression – low blood count
• Pleural effusion- shortness of breath, fluid buildup around lungs
• Hematological toxicity –bleeding risk, decreased platelet count
• Hepatotoxicity – elevated enzymes
• QT Prolongation- irregular heartbeats
