What is Dorucin?
Dorucin is an anti cancer medicine that is used as a cytotoxic agent to kill viable cancer cells for various types of cancer.

• Leukemia
• Lymphocytic cancers

• Lung cancer
• Sarcomas
• Ovarian cancers
How does Dorucin work?
• Blocks the enzyme topoisomerase 2
• Inhibit cancer cell division and growth
• Causes cancer cell death
Common Side Effects of Dorucin
• GIT upset – Nausea, vomiting
• Mouth and throat ulcers
• Hair loss
• Urine discoloration
• Red eyes.
Serious Side-Effects
• Difficulty in breathing
• Skin rash
• Seizures
• Red blood in stool and vomit
Toxicities
• Dorucin causes dose-dependent toxicities
• Cardio toxicity – Arrhythmia, irreversible cardiac failure
• Myelosuppression – decreases in red blood cell count, white blood cells, and platelets.
• Vesicant effect – severe local tissue necrosis
Contraindications
• Not to be used in patients with prior hypersensitivity to the drug or its excipients.
• Breastfeeding mothers
• Pregnant women
Precautions
To be used cautiously in patients with
• Heart disease
• Low blood count
• Liver disease
Warnings
To be used under medical supervision, given as a slow intravenous infusion over 15-60 minutes.
Important Safety and Monitoring Considerations
Regular monitoring of the liver function, cardiac function, and regular blood count is required.
Storage:
Store at 2-8 degrees Celsius (refrigerator), protected from light.
Reconstituted solution to be used immediately.
