Description
Erlonat 100 (Erlotinib)
Sometimes chemotherapy does not work. And not only is it expensive, but also painful. With the drug intake via oral therapy, the pain may not be as bad. That is why patients should look for the next best alternative to chemotherapy. And that is drug therapy. For patients who have lung cancer, we have the medicine called erlonat 100 (erlotinib). It is specifically for adult patients above 18. But if you are a minor, consulting the doctor is the best choice.
Erlonat 100 (erlotinib) is an orally taken drug for adult patients with non-small cell lung cancer. It can also treat advanced pancreatic cancer in adult patients by combining it with gemcitabine. The Erlonat 100 (erlotinib) is part of a group of medicines called cytostatic agents. If the initial chemotherapy did not work, this medicine could be prescribed to you or as an alternative therapy for the disease.
The function of this medicine is to:
- Inhibits the growth of the protein called epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) responsible for the growth and spread of cancer cells.
- It is expressed over both normal and cancer cells.
- The inhibition then suppresses the proliferation of the cancer cells, resulting in their death.
Through these actions, the Erlonat 100 (erlotinib) succeeds in destroying the cancer cells in the body.
Administration for the Erlonat 100 (erlotinib) medicine – This medicine should be taken orally at least an hour before or two hours after the meal. The medicine is to be taken under the doctor’s guidance and not with food. Do not chew or bite the tablet, and take it as a whole with a sip of water. Continue with the dosage as long as the doctor advises to obtain better results.
When should the medicine Erlonat 100 (erlotinib) be avoided or taken cautiously?
- When the patient is using lenses or has an eye problem like dry eyes or dry eyes or inflammation of the cornea
- When the patient has glucuronidation disorder like Gilbert’s syndrome.
- When the patient has a history of peptic ulcer or diverticular disease.
- The patient should also talk to the doctor before taking certain medicines for bacterial infection, epilepsy, stomach acid, antifungal, or prevent blood clots, among other medical history.
- When the patient is pregnant or is planning a pregnancy.
- When the patient is breastfeeding.
- When the patient has a medical history of kidney or liver problems.
- When the patient is allergic to erlotinib or any other ingredients of the medicine.
As a strong medicine, the Erlonat 100 (erlotinib) may also have a variety of common, uncommon, and rare side effects. They are as follows.
Most common side effects of erlonat 100 (erlotinib):
- Rashes on the exposed skin
- Headache
- Depression
- Weight loss
- Decrease in appetite, nausea, indigestion, and flatulence
- Fatigue
- Breathlessness
- Nose bleeding
- Gl bleeding
- Inflammation around the fingernails
- Hair loss.
Uncommon side effects of the erlonat 100 (erlotinib):
- Persistent diarrhea and vomiting
- Eye irritation due to conjunctivitis
- Liver failure
- Severe abdominal pain
- Irritation in the lungs (interstitial lung disease)
- Flushed or swollen and painful palms and soles.
These are some of the side effects of the medicine. But do not worry. Under a doctor’s guidance and regular dosage, there can be a significant improvement in the patients. The dosage may also vary depending on the condition of the patient. But in the end, this is an amazing alternative and should be available for everyone to utilize as a prescribed anti-cancer drug through oral therapy.
