Trombopag 25 mg (Eltrombopag Olamine) is used to treat the low platelet count in the body due to ITP, or chronic immune idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and HCV or chronic hepatitis C virus. This medicine is also used to treat aplastic anemia. The eltrombopag in the drug – Trombopag 25 mg is a thrombopoietin agonist.

This helps stimulate the formation of more platelets in the body, which in turn helps prevent or reduce excessive bleeding. This medicine is also taken with interferon and ribavirin for the treatment to take action. The Trombopag 25 mg (Eltrombopag Olamine) is given to patients who have –

– Low platelet count due to ITP or HCV infection.

– Aplastic anemia.

– If other medications, as well as surgery to remove the spleen, were unsuccessful.

Administration of Trombopag 25 mg:

The Trombopag 25 mg (Eltrombopag Olamine) has to be taken orally as directed by the physician. The tablets should be taken once a day with water, without chewing or crushing on them. Moreover, the dosage should be according to the prescription from the doctor.
It has to be taken at least two hours before the meals, especially dairy products and calcium-rich drinks, like milk. Or, the medicine is to be taken four hours after the patient has their meals that contain dairy products.

In general, the medicine needs to be taken an hour before the meals and two hours after having the meals. In case of a missed dose, do not take extra medicine on the next dosage, as it can lead to overdosing. Take the prescribed dosage at the next interval and continue according to the doctor’s instructions.

When should Trombopag 25 mg be avoided or taken cautiously?

As far as hepatitis C is concerned, it does not have any harmful effects on the kidney. – If the patient has a medical history of kidney problems. This is because hepatic impairment influences the exposure of eltrombopag. That is why it is important to adjust the dosage for patients suffering from ITP and aplastic anemia, especially those between six and above.

– Avoid getting into activities that may give you the risk of bleeding. Avoid sports and such.
