What is Zoldokast?
Cancer treatment often causes bone loss, it is widely used to treat cancer-related bone complications and osteoporosis.
Uses of Zoldokast
• Osteoporosis
• High calcium levels caused by malignancies
• Secondary cancers in the bone
• Chronic bone disorder
• Bone marrow cancers
• Bone lesions
How does Zoldokast work?
• Osteoclast causes bone dissolution.
• Inhibiting osteoclasts stops bone dissolution, preventing bone integrity.
Common Side Effects
• Diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Bone, muscle pain
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Fluid retention
• Dizziness
• Dryness of the skin
Serious side effects
• Lowered calcium levels – tingling in fingers
• Kidney failure
• Irregular heartbeat
• Bone fractures
• Osteonecrosis of the jawbone
• Eye inflammation
• Blood in urine
• Dizziness, confusion
• Shortness of breath
• Rapid weight gain
• Decreased vision

Contraindications

Administration Instructions
• To be administered as a slow IV infusion only.
• Do not give as an IV push/bolus.
• To be used immediately after reconstitution.
• Ensure patient hydration before infusion.
• Do not mix with calcium-containing IV solutions.
Storage
It should be stored at 2-8 degrees Celsius, protected from light.
