Lamivudine and Zidovudine?

The fixed doses of lamivudine and zidovudine form a highly active antiretroviral therapy against HIV.

Uses -

• HIV infection
• Post-exposure prophylaxis
• To prevent HIV transmission to the child during pregnancy

Working of the lamivudine and zidovudine combination

• It inhibits the multiplication of HIV cells
• Reduces HIV cell count

Warnings

• To be used under medical prescription.

Discontinuing immediately in Hepatitis B patients may cause serious hepatitis flare-ups.

• Should not be used as monotherapy for HIV treatment
