What is Dasakast?
Dasakast is an anticancer drug and is used in targeted therapy for both chronic and acute leukemia.
It is used for Philadelphia chromosome-positive leukemia when no other drug works.
Uses of Dasakast
- Myeloid Leukemia (Chronic)
- Lymphocytic leukemia (Acute)
How does Dasakast work?
It inhibits the cancer cell enzyme (tyrosine kinase)
Stops cancer cell growth and multiplication
Shrink cancer
Common Side Effects
- Infections- cough, changing temperatures, headache, chills, and fever.
- Bleeding of gums and nose—fall in blood count
- Hemorrhage
- Diarrhea
- Skin rashes, dryness, and itching
- Oedema
- Fatigue
- Stomach bloating and pain
Severe Side Effects
- Scarring of the lungs
- Bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract
- A severe skin reaction
- QT Prolongation—irregular heartbeats
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients
- Hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the drug or its excipients.
- Breastfeeding mothers—it may be passed on to infants or breastfeeding children
- Pregnant women—it may be teratogenic.
Toxicities
- Bone marrow suppression—low blood count
- Pleural effusion—shortness of breath, fluid buildup around the lungs
- Hematological toxicity—bleeding risk, decreased platelet count
- Hepatotoxicity—elevated enzymes
- Cardiovascular Toxicity—irregular heartbeat
