SoviHep 400 mg (Sofosbuvir) is a renowned anti-Hepatitis C viral (HCV) drug used in combination with other agents like ribavirin or peginterferon. SoviHep 400 mg (sofosbuvir) operates by reducing the amount of HCV cells in the body. Besides, it also assists in decreasing the incidence of liver complications like cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) and liver cancer. The dosage of SoviHep 400 mg (Sofosbuvir) differs based on the genotype of HCV and duration of treatment. Preferably, 400 mg tablet once daily is recommended irrespective of food.
In patients with genotype 1 or 4, SoviHep 400 mg (Sofosbuvir) is combined with ribavirin and peginterferon alfa for 12 weeks. Whereas, in genotype 2, the same combination is given without peginterferon alfa. In genotype 3, the duration of the dosage is extended from 12 to 24 weeks with the same combination as genotype 2.
In conditions (genotype 1) where peginterferon alfa cannot be used, SoviHep 400 mg (Sofosbuvir) plus ribavirin are given for 24 weeks instead of 12 weeks. Whereas, in liver cancer patients waiting for their transplant operation, the same combination can be used for 48 weeks or until the time of liver transplantation.
